He is regularly invited to write page-long essays in national newspapers, weekly’s and monthly’s, such as NRC VolkskrantTrouw, De Groene Amsterdammer and Vrij Nederland. His work has been translated in more than twelve languages.

Scientific awards and other indications of academic reputation

 

1993

Praemium Erasmianum Research Prize, for De tragedie van de eindigheid. Wilhelm Diltheys hermeneutiek  van het leven , Kampen (Kok Agora) 1993 (PhD thesis, Universiteit van Nijmegen).

Queen Beatrix congratulates Jos de Mul on winning the Praemium Erasmianum Dissertation Prize (with son Joris and daugther Elize in the background). Royal Palace Amsterdam, 1993.

An updated version has been published under the title The Tragedy of Finitude. Dilthey's Hermeneutics of Life by Yale University Press, 2004.  

 

2003

Socrates Prize for the best Dutch Philosophical Publication of 2002, for Cyberspace Odyssee, Kampen: Klement, 2002. 

 

2004   

In an enquête organized by Philosophy Magazine among all philosophy professors in The Netherlands and Flanders, De Mul was ranked in the top 3 of most innovative philosophers in Dutch speaking countries.

 

2008

According a Vrij Nederland enquête among intellectuals De Mul was regarded one of the twelve most sagacious intellectuals in The Netherlands.
