Jos de Mul spreekt naar aanleiding van zijn meest recente Nederlandstalige boek - Paniek in de polder. Polytiek en populisme in Nederland(Zoetermeer: Klement, 2011) - over de opkomst en de domesticatie van het populisme in Nederland.
In een reeks prikkelende beschouwingen over fortuynistische paradoxen, schaatsende moslima's, tragikomische heldinnen, wedergeboren verlichters, eurosceptische nationalisten en islamofobe populisten a(l)la(h) Wilders fileert Jos de Mul messcherp en met de nodige humor de wederwaardigheden van vaderlandse politiek in het laatste decennium. Hij biedt een grondige analyse van onze interculturele samenleving en de onvrede met de parlementaire democratie. Bijzonder opmerkelijk is daarbij zijn pleidooi voor een seculier-polytheïstische staatspolitiek ('polytiek') die de Paniek buiten de Polder houdt en het tragisch besef erbinnen.
